In this workshop we will continue to deepen seamless control with dynamic shoulder hooping, and explore effortless single shoulder hooping and duck-outs. For this more advanced class, we will play with progressive and demanding concepts such as continuous sweeps, stabilized single-shoulder hooping, continuous shoulder duck-outs, and shoulder-to-shoulder passes. As the class progresses, we will embrace the challenge of incorporating tech flow (breaks, paddles, duck-outs etc.) into the concept of a shoulder hooping in a slow wobbling plane.

Fire Hoop Techniques

This class will focus on teaching you how to use your fire hoop with confidence, allowing you to hoop like it’s not on fire! Through hand placement techniques and simple hand movements, we can learn how to work around the fire wicks. We will be learning how to do tosses, escalators, chest rolls, wedgies, and super tricky ways to light your hoop up. If you’ve ever been afraid of your fire hoop, or if you wanted to use an un-lit one to practice with, this is class for you.
In this class we will not be lighting up unless we have extra time, and this will only be fore demonstrations.

Moments of Release

We will go over different ways to release grip on the hoop to gain new dynamics in our dance - namely explosiveness and height. We we also learn new ways to catch the hoop and reintegrate it into our flow. We will take these same techniques and apply them to moments when we accidentally lose hold of the hoop so then we never have to feel out of control anymore.

Joulehoop's Intentional Mind Space Manipulation Workshop consists of a discussion, a meditation, and a series of exercises. 2 for 1 is a twin hooping workshop focusing on different hand grips and technical movements with 2 hoops in one hand! The workshop will also be used as a pre requisite to make the 3 hoop workshop more accessible. We’ll begin by covering a few of the different hand grips most often used with one hand twin hooping, and how they relate to each other, as well as transitions for entering and exiting 1 hand and switching the hand actively holding the hoops. Off Body Geometry is a tech twin hooping workshop focusing on off body pattern building and 3d framework. Class will start with a brief discussion on hybrids; what they are, how they can be subcategorized, and how they leave a lot of room open for exploration. We’ll then take Hand2Hand hybrids as a sub-focus and begin on an exploration of various ways to create hybrids through knowledge of terminology and application. Continuous Folded Hooping : Growing in popularity over the past two years, “folding” has become a genre of hoop moves that is essential for a complete skill set. It forces hoopers to explore manipulating their hoop in the third dimension, rather than sticking to the standard wall and ceiling planes. Not only that, but almost all the folded hooping moves feed straight into and out of each other within combos, they are very satisfying to learn. For over 2 years, Mike Hayataka has been completely absorbed in folding and the endless possibilities it offers.
