Flying Discs

Flying Discs is a mixed level workshop created for those who would like to learn how to throw and catch a disc for use in sport, recreation, or freestyle. 10.75” diameter plastic 175g and 165g discs will be the primary disc used in this class.

Participants will receive instruction how to throw backhand, forehand, and hammer-style throws. A variety of catches will be taught and some time will be designated towards freestyle throws and catches.

We'll go over a few tricky ways to get the diabolo started, as well as a few alternate acceleration methods. This course will cover tricks including flourishes and two complete sequences that can be modified and built upon. Take your moves beyond simply being a way to take a break from sticking fire in your face. A set of balanced torches is optimal. A small number will be available for use. Slackline 101

This class will help beginners on how to start out on a slackline. It will teach several important aspects to balancing, from the position of the slackline under the foot, how much bend to have in the knees, how to focus on stabilizing the line, and methods to control your body to stay on the line longer. Once we have learned how to stand and walk with assistance on the line, we will learn how to do this unassisted. If there are advanced individuals out there, they are encouraged to come inspire the class with me!

Emotional Clarity Practice ("Tech Feelings 101")

Contact Leviwand 101

Let Melissa Coffey help you with your first flight on static or dance trapeze! This class will have you warming up all of your major muscle groups for a safe and easy introduction to your first poses and sequences. Under the bar, sitting and standing tricks are shown so you can put them together by the end of class and start to feel like flying. Melissa will work with you one on one in class over a big, cushy mat, spotting you and directing you as you learn on a low trapeze. No experience requried for this class as 8 ring is very unique. Knowing double staff or multiball contact patterns is something worth learning. First we will go over the different grips and ways to hold the prop and learn to travel between them. Then we will go over the various ways to apply force to the prop to initiate movement. On to basic movements of isolation, antispin, spin spin and box isolations,trying these movements in all planes in various grips. Once familiar with some basics, we'll try out some hybrids(doing 2 different things with each hand).

devil stick introduction

Since devil sticks are sort of a rare prop I will mostly be teaching beginner tips and tricks to get started. I can teach intermediate and advanced spins and tosses. The devil sticks can have a few different styles and my style is more on the technical side of the devil stick flow. I will start by showing how to get the devil sticks off the ground and how to bounce the main stick back and forth between the control sticks. Then I can move more in to horizontal and vertical spins and how to properly control them.

Coming into this flowshop with a basic understanding of short string and being able to keep the wand upright will be beneficial, but definitely not necessary as I will start from the beginnings and explain my method of spinning the wand, which I find to be quite different from others.
